Top 5 Doll Houses
70Girls Love Doll Houses
When I was a little girl I wanted a doll house more than anything. My friends had them but I didn't. One year for Christmas my grandpa made me one. It was beautiful but simple. I just loved that doll house and played with it for hours and hours. It had three stories and each room had it's own wall paper, flooring and windows. I don't remember if it had much furniture or not. It probably did. My grandpa was a wonder at making things. He built his own house by himself in the mid 1960's.
Now I have two little girls and they don't have a doll house (yet). They will be getting one for Christmas this year. (Shhh... please don't tell them!) It's too bad I don't still have the house that my grandpa made for me. I really wish I had it so I could have passed it down to them. But I guess one can't save everything, right?
So I have been searching Amazon for the best doll houses and have found several that are really cute. Listed below are the top 5 doll houses in no particular order.
Melissa & Doug Classic Heirloom Victorian Doll House
This doll house by Melissa & Doug is a classic Victorian style house. Isn't it beautiful? A pink and white house with a blue and white roof. This house is two stories with an attic room. On the first floor you have the kitchen, entry, dining room and living room. On the second floor is the bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, and landing. The attic can be used as a nursery or play room.
This house is recommended for ages 6 to 10, but I know my 5 year old would just love it. All the dolls and furniture come separately.
The nice thing about this house is it's wooden construction. It's actually laminate over particle board (which will make it heavier than regular wood). The dimensions of this house are 12.5 x 19.2 x 29 inches and it weighs 30 pounds. You will need to assemble this house. Plan on an hour or two and a fully charged drill. (see below for a link to Amazon with pricing.)
This house will bring smiles and joy to your girls for years to come.
Fisher-Price My First Dollhouse
If you have a little one at home, this is a perfect choice for a doll house. You can't go wrong with Fisher Price toys. This house is recommended for little ones aged 2-5 years old.
This adorable doll house has 5 rooms in total. On the first floor you have the kitchen and living room with space for a dining area. The second story has a bathroom and a bedroom with a balcony. The space on top can be used as a deck, playroom, or party space.
Included in this house:
- the family (mom, dad, and baby)
- stove, fridge, sink
- table with two chairs
- toilet
You really don't need to purchase anything else for this doll house but there are additional room accessories. For example, you can add the bedroom set and nursery furniture.
This house does require assembly, but it doesn't take too long to put together. The finished dimensions are 22 x 15.7 x 9.2 inches.
If my girls were younger, I would totally get this house for them. The little figures the perfect size for little hands. What a fun little doll house. Again, great job, Fisher Price!
Calico Critters Townhome
My youngest daughter really wants this Calico Critters Townhome. It's adorable isn't it? This doll house has a unique feature. It's hinged so it can open and close. What a great way to keep all the little people and furniture inside at clean up time.
The townhome has 4 rooms and a balcony. When it's open, you can use the open space for additional square footage. With the townhome, you receive a movable staircase and a room divider so you can make an extra room. There are even lights that can turn on and off.
What I like best about this house is the decor. It's very "calico" with the sweet floral wall paper. The furniture comes separately, as to the little critters. The critters little animals and are so cute.
This house isn't very big. The dimensions are 12 x 12 x 12 inches and it weighs 7.4 pounds. Remember since the house is small, this house isn't recommended for little ones. The recommended age is 3 and up.
All little girls who love animals will just adore this house.
Savannah Doll house
This is my favorite of these 5 doll houses. Why? It's the tallest! The Savannah Doll House by Kidkraft is (in my opinion) the best doll house ever because it's the mansion of doll houses.
This doll house has 4 floors and six rooms. The first floor has a bathroom and living room. The second floor has the landing, kitchen and dining room. The third floor has a bedroom with two balconies. The fourth floor is the attic which can be used for many purposes. The house is modeled after the Southern style, hence the Savannah name.
When you purchase the doll house, you receive 14 pieces of furniture. That make the price even better. I love it when the furnishings are included. You can always purchase additional furniture if you want more.
This house is a great size. The finished dimensions are 32.5 x 13.5 x 51 inches and it weighs 17.3 pounds. The recommended age for this house is 36 months to 6 years. However, I know my 8 year old would love it and probably still play with it until she is 10 or 11.
One of the best features of this house is that the rooms will fit any 12" doll (including Barbies).
This doll house is a winner and your daughter will love it!
Barbie Pink 3-Story Dream Townhouse
I don't know how many Barbies you have in your house, but we have enough to fill an over-crowded California classroom. Our Barbies don't even have a house to live in. Isn't that sad? They just live in a shoe organizer that hangs over the back of my daughter's door. They need a house. They need a pink 3-story dream townhouse!
This is what my oldest daughter wants. Her best friend got this for her birthday and they have played with it for hours. Most play dates are at her house because she has this Barbie doll house.
Let me tell you about this house. It's pink, Barbie's favorite color. The first of the three stories has the kitchen and dining room. It's an open floor plan so there is plenty of room for all of the Barbies and Ken. The second floor has bathroom and living room. The third floor has Barbie's master suite bedroom with a deck for the jacuzzi. This house has an elevator instead of stairs (of course!). There are lights and sounds on every level to make this a total dream house.
This Dream Townhouse comes with 55 pieces (not the Barbies). There are tiki lights for the spa even. Mattel has gone all out for this one. Barbie has come a long way since 1975 when I was little. As always, you can purchase additional pieces to go with the house. Don't they need a car?
You will need to assemble this piece. I've heard the elevator is pretty tricky to put together. The finished house is 32 x 7 x 30 inches and weighs 25 pounds. It's pretty big. But it's totally worth the money and will provide so many hours of fun. It's recommend for ages 36 months to 10 years.
(I think I'm going to get this doll house for my girls. After all, we have so many homeless Barbies.)
